| 01. Training of Drivers for Heavy Vehicles. This was undertaken to promote drivers on Vocational Training which is very useful in driving and maintaining of vehicles. |
| 02. Provision of Loans to projects in the Southern Province. This is a facility to improve Agricultural and Industrial Projects undertaken by entrepreneurers. |

03. Supply of Loans for Purchasing of Local Paddy Varieties. This is being done to encourage local paddy varieties. |

04. Construction of Bio - Gas units. This is done as an alternative source to make use of Natural Manures which are going waste at present. |
| 05. Construction of cattle sheds. This is launched for promoting cattle farming in Southern Province as the present cost of powdered milk is very high. |

06. Construction of Mini - Hydro - power stations to provide electricity by making use of existing resources of water which is going waste at present. This is a good solution to present power crisis. |

07. Assistance for Inland Fishery Industry to promote fish culture which is an essential item in the daily food. This is a solution to present protein crisis in the food of common man. |
| 08. Improvement of home gardens to promote Agricultural Production. This is being undertaken to increase the income of local farmers and to provide fresh vegetables at the home gardens of ordinary man who faces financial difficulties. |
| 09. Undertaking of Projects connected with solid waste management to separate the components of solid waste and to recycle the inorganic components and to utilize the organic component as compost which could be used as a natural manure. |
| 10. Provision of services as an EDS provider for Southern Provincial Rural Economic Advancement project. In this aspect, activities are being undertaken to prepare Business project proposals and also to provide the other services for entrepreneurs. This is done with the intention of promoting the enterprises in the Southern Province. |
| Under this, "Dasuna Loans" are granted to the value of Rs. One Million at a reasonable interest for the upliftment of entrepreneurs in the Southern Province who lack capital to start on useful businesses using available resources. |
| In addition to the above activities, Southern Provincial Development Authority undertakes projects upto a value of above Rs. 20 Million under the provisions of members of Southern Provincial Council. |

| Following projects have been proposed for the year 2008 onwords in different fields. |
| 1. Cattle breeding project at Hungama, Ambalantota. This is a massive project of 75 acres which will be planted with improved varieties of grasses. There will be 2 cattle sheds to provide shelter for stud bulls of good breeds such as Murrah, Nili Ravi, Schindhi, Sahiwal etc. Nutural service will be provided at this cattle breeding center for upgrading local cattle and buffaloes. Artificial insemination will also be done at this center. |
| 2. Post Harvest management of local vegetables to suit the Export market. This is a highly technically oriented project to improve the present handling of local vegetables such as Manioc, Kiri Ala etc. Good quality vegetables will be handled to suit the modern export market of vegetables. |
| 3. Cultivation of reeds and promotion of reed products in Akurala, Hikkaduwa. This project is aimed at the promotion of popular reeds which were destroyed by Tsunami in 2004. This project also promotes Reed products such as Reed Hand Bags, Purses, Mats etc. |
| 4. Netrampalam Banana Project at Thihagoda, Matara for promotion of Bananas with Nutritive value. This is a very rare project done by SPDA to encourage cultivation of valuable Banana variety. This variety fetches a very high price in the local market. |
| 5. Dragon fruit cultivation on 10 acres for export market, This is a project with export value and fetches a high price of Rs. 400/- per Kilo. It is very nutritious and most of the foreigners like it. |
| 6. The solid waste management project which deals with the separation of components of solid waste. The organic component is made into compost which is a good natural manure. |
| 7. Construction of 100 Bio - Gas units. This project aims at making of alternative energy sources from animal waste. It provides energy for cooking and lighting. This saves money spent on power and L.P. Gas. |
| 8. Project on promotion of Fruit Pulp. This is aimed to make use of fruit pulp which has a good demand. |
| 9. Cultivation of medicinal herbs. This is aimed to promote the use of Medicinal Herbs in Sri Lanka, as a replacement of western drugs with high cost. |
10. Establishment of the Press :-
This is a very important project to undertake printing. There is lot of printing material needed for the people. This will undertake quality printing of printing material. Printing will be done on a reasonable basis for organizations. |
