Message from the Chief Minister of Southern Province
Man is a collective being by nature and he cannot survive without the natural participation of each other.
From the beginning of this universe the man has performed various economic and social activities for the survival of its kind.
According to the economic activities that he had performed to obtain the due place in the universe and to gain a meaning to his life, one can separate each age in to Human Eras and the Pioneers of these activities are called as the Humanitarians.

We have passed several eras of that and now we have stepped in to the era of electronics and technology.
With the entrance to the stage the man has become global member through breaking the boundaries that he had earlier been.
Now it is the responsibility of the man to serve with his power for the needs of the era for the survival of the mankind.
The Southern Province has a proud history of over 2000 years and it was called as the “ Ruhunu Rata” in the past. And there is a strong need to rebuild the economic prosperities and to bring about the glories of the past with the help of physical and human resources within the Southern province.
When we consider the contemporary state in the Southern province, 40% of population is living without the minimum basic requirements.
We have understood that it is the responsibility of us to salvage the people from this sorrowful stage. It is clear that we have potential to achieve a firm economic prosperity by managing the inactive physical & human resources according to a proper plan in to the development process.
The lack of essential capital investment is the main problem that we come across in the process of reinstate these powers. Provincial Development Authority under my Ministry has prepared a plan to enhance the power within the province and to use that towards the economic development. Furthermore we have prepared a participation development programme plan.
According to powers and objectives of Development Authority, we have set up plans to develop an environment so as to assist and encourage the Investors who wish to commence agricultural and industrial projects.
I take this opportunity to invite the local and foreign organizations and investors for making capital investment for the purpose of implementing same.
I am quite confident that the national and international organization will extend their co-operation to imitate the concept as it means by the words “Development Through Participations” for the Development of Southern Province and for the distribution of its benefits to the world

Message from the Chairman of SPDA
SPDA is a Government Organization which is conducted by Southern Provincial Council
SPDA is under conduction by Chief minister of Southern Province. The authority is empowered by the act to planning and implementing all kind of Economical, Social projects as well as authoring can join all the Agricultural, Industrial and Service Development Projects.
We have implemented lot of projects in Galle , Mathara and Hambanthota cities in Southern Province. Among these projects mini hydro power plants and bio gas projects are the most valuable and successful projects.

Based on these experience authority has planned five years development plan to develop agricultural, industrial and service sectors. SPDA supposes to increase the income and enhance the living standards of Southern population, create local and foreign sales centers for goods produced within Southern Province and implement necessary marketing programs to provide local and foreign market.
